HISTORY OF MILL NO. 3

The original Mill No. 3 Paper Mill was built on this site to take advantage of the readily available water power along the "Nashaway River" and the demand for paper to print the "Massachusetts Spy" considered in 1850 to be the most daring News-paper ever published in America.

In recent years, this historic site along the banks of the Nashua River laid vacant for decades … a large industrial lot unremarkable but for three distinct characteristics:

  • Picturesque waterfall not visible from the road
  • Dearth of other food / retail establishments in the vicinity at the time
  • Busy route connecting to a major highway with 19,000 cars driving by every day

After many hours and many days counting cars, Dan and Denise Mulloy took their business plan (essentially the number "19,000" scrawled on a paper napkin) to a local bank and received financing to build a totally reinvented Mill No 3.

First, they engaged in a pilot project selling fresh corn and tomatoes from a flat bed trailer all during the summer of "96". The pilot project was wildly successful and gave them the needed confidence to build Mill No. 3 Farm Stand - breaking ground just about six years ago.

Today, Mill No. 3 Farmstand is blessed with a steady clientele of friends, family, neighbors and passersby, an enormous opportunity for future growth, and the motivation of a job well done.

Not willing to rest on its laurels, Mill No. 3 is embarking on an ambitious plan for 2005 with the launch of its first website http://www.millno3.com, the grand opening of its wine shop and a soon-to-be-announced wireless hot spot internet cafe.

Mill No. 3 Farmstand is proud to be a recipient of the North Central Massachusetts Chamber of Commerce Award in recognition of demonstrated efforts in advancing the economic development goals of the Chamber of Commerce by opening a new business and investing in the region's future.

Mill No. 3 Farmstand is the perfect spot for garden supplies, plants and flowers, special occasion gift baskets, premium wines and beers, deli lunches, coffee and a wide variety of specialty items. Stop by anytime 7 AM to 6 PM or fax your lunch order to 978-345-8707 for free delivery.
